Neill Forks

Friday 20/06/2014
Drove from Wellington to Holdsworth car park. At eight p.m. I headed off in the dark going to Totara Flats hut, unsure if I would stay there the night or continue to Neill Forks. Got to Totara Flats before eleven and as it was empty decided to stay the night and got a fire going. Sampled a variety of 50ml American whiskey's. At about two in the morning a group arrived.

The journey from Totara Flats hut up to Cone Ridge was a shiny white mushroom day.
Got to Neill Forks just after eleven, beating the rain. Great hut to shelter in with a warm fire and book filled Android.

Sunday 22/06/2014
Not such a wet day. Left Neill Forks eleven thirty'ish and headed out. Stopped for cuppa tea at Totara Flats and was entertained by a chopper dropping in.
1080 Sign update
The passengers came into the hut and modified the expiry date on the 1080 warning poster, and also did the one at the swing bridge. Is this the case that land care got the predictions wrong for the potency of the 1080 drop or what?

Got out to the car at six p.m. and headed back to Wellington.

We did leave Wellington sometime and drove to Holdsworth car park, then a brisk walk into Aitiwhakatu for the night. What a gigantic fridge this hut has become, one of then barn sized things like Totara Flats and Powell.

Left the dirty barn that is Aitiwhakatu.
The "bigger" Aitiwhakatu
And here is a line up of the least desirable shit left at the hut by the lazy trampers that visit the easy spots. Always the easy huts to get to have a pile of rubbish left. This rubbish seems to be left by the same trampers that also never clean before they leave and never ever ever leave fire wood for the next people. Probably the people with the massive packs and tiny brains who go out once or twice a year.
Tramper rubbish
Arriving at Jumbo 1330 with slight chill.
Jumbo Hut
Got a few refreshments to ensure that there is a total enjoyment of the location even if its a hut bound day.

Heading out to Holdsworth, then back to Wellington. Stopped at Aitiwhakatu to pick up the rubbish. It was a good pace that was set on the way out.

Love the new bridge.
Great bridge!
