Mitre Flats with Tariga

Tariga and I want to get to the top of Mitre Peak in the Tararua's and the weekend we picked had nothing but rain. So we went anyway.

Friday 14/08/2014
We left late on a Friday night after work and arrived at the car park in the rain. Headed off at about 2230 hours.

It was after 0200 hours on the Saturday when we got to the hut. Cold and wet so got the fire going and had snacks and hot drinks and sleeping at about 0400.

Saturday 15/08/2015
Did not wake up till mid morning. With the rain still coming down we choose a day at the hut with small walks into the forest to gather wood. Found a few dry spars that where easy to cut with the hut saw.

Read and relaxed for the rest of the day, as sole occupants, with an early night and warm fire.

Still raining, no option except to walk out in the rain.

Tariga on bridge on way home

Even with the rain and a bit of a chill it was a nice relaxing walk out thru the rain forest in the rain.

Got entertained when we came across the cow in the forest, walked her back out to the farm land.
