Totara Flats hut

Saturday 19/05/2012
Left Wellington eventually on the Saturday after lunch, tweaking stuff at work. Just me having a walk to keep myself being a fully upright man. Got to the hut just after 1930 hours.
The lazy scum had been at the hut again, empty food cans on the window sill and half burnt ones in the fire.
So got relaxing with an awesome whisky sourced from Centre City Wines & Spirits, Adelphi's Bunnahabhain 10yo at 59.8% and so dark and sherry heavy that there was no need to light a fire to warm the hut.
Sunday 20/05/2012
Had a relaxing afternoon reading and eating olives and cheese on the verandah in the sun.
Did a cleanup and collected a bag of rubbish to carry out.
And cause its fun collected a starter kit for the fire for the next visitors, who I'm sure wont have the awesome tasty tasty whisky I had.

South Ohau Escape Route

On an earlier trip with Carl we saw in the hut book that a party was cutting and marking the escape route up from South Ohau hut to bump 930 on the Gable End Ridge Track.
So this weekend checked it out and it is well marked and an easy uphill way out when the river is in flood. The track is good for fun for variety if you are coming from Te Matawai as you get an uphill after the downhill so more exercise, than if straight out down South Ohau.
