Kapiti Island

Sunday 28/11/1993

Went to Kapiti Island with Brian, when we got off the boat and where listening to the lecture about the place a Kaka landed on my head. Wish I had a photo of that.

Brian and I blasted off up to the top of Tuteremoana, took us fifty minutes. Sat there and had a typical snack and watched a cheeky weka.

Atiwhakatu Hut

Just on my own getting into the forest for a day or so for relaxing.

03/12/1993 Friday
Drove to Holdsworth car park and then walked into Atiwhakatu hut, arriving at 1010. Just under one and a half hours walk time. Some rain so I parked up in the hut with a book by James Gleick called  Chaos reading and listening to the rushing water music.

04/12/1993 Saturday
Eventually I left and returned to Holdsworth and drove back to Wellington.

6:32 am Time to get out of bed and up the river, we stayed in the Haybarn at the Hodder river last night. After breakfast and packing up we headed off up the Hodder.
It was a bit cold at times in the river and there was snow for the last section. Took five hours forty from hay barn to huts.
